  • What is PDW?
PDW stands for Parallel Data Warehouse. SQL Server PDW is the MPP(Massive Parallel Processing) edition of SQL Server. It is actually an appliance combining a hardware and software.
It achieves the scalability needed for handling hundreds of terabyte’s of data volume by running independent servers in parallel.
In addition, the new SQL Server 2012 PDW integrated structured and semistructured data using PolyBase, so extracting and analyzing big data became possible.

  • What is Azure?
Windows Azure is a cloud computing platform and infrastructure, created by Microsoft, for building, deploying and managing applications and services through a global network of Microsoft-managed datacenters. It provides both platform as a service (PaaS) and infrastructure as a service (IaaS) services and supports many different programming languages, tools and frameworks, including both Microsoft-specific and third-party software and systems.
